The transition from a semi-nomadic life in an open space to life in permanent localities in a regimented space has a major impact on all areas of life. Knowledge, experience, and insights relevant to the process currently underway in the Negev have been gathered in many places where this process has already taken place. This study surveys examples from around the world, especially Australia, Jordan, and Canada, and addresses dimensions such as education, social services, governance, leadership, and economics. The survey was used as a basis for developing curriculum units that have been used in MCLN training programs.
